For the fastest, flakiest, perfectly cooked salmon, use the microwave! The entire meal, salmon and veggies, cooks in 5 minutes and comes out perfectly every time! Salmon Rice Bowls Ingredients

  • Rice: I prepare brown rice in batches and freeze it so I can pop it in the microwave at any time. You can also buy frozen brown rice.
  • Salmon rice sauce: Sweet red chili sauce, sriracha, freshly grated ginger.
  • Salmon: Use a six-ounce fillet. The fish can be fresh or frozen and thawed.
  • Baby Bok Choy: Halve a bok choy lengthwise.
  • Taste: Season the Chinese cabbage with a pinch of salt and a drizzle of sesame oil.

How to make salmon rice bowls in the microwave

Here's how I make this easy salmon rice bowl recipe.

  2. Mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
  3. Once the rice is hot, place the bok choy and salmon on the plate and drizzle the bok choy with a little sesame oil and a pinch of salt.
  4. Next, brush the glaze over the fish and place it back in the microwave for three to four minutes. You will have perfectly boiled salmon and steamed vegetables.


  • Rice: Swap brown rice for white rice. If you don't have frozen rice, you can make your own or purchase a microwave-safe rice bag for faster cooking.
  • Low carb: Swap the rice for cauliflower rice.
  • Vegetables: If you can't find bok choy, fresh spinach, broccoli, cauliflower rice or edamame would also work.
  • Spicy Salmon Rice Bowls: These bowls are a little unique, but feel free to add more sriracha if you like your food extra spicy.

  • Place the frozen rice on a medium low everyday plate (or microwave-safe plate), making sure to turn the vent up and microwave to high for 2 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine the red chili sauce, sriracha, and ginger.

  • Remove from the microwave and mix, place the Chinese cabbage cut in half on the edges of the bowl.

  • Place the salmon fillet skin side down in the center.

  • Complete everything with a pinch of salt. Sprinkle the sesame oil over the bok choy.

  • Brush the sauce over the salmon and cover, ventilated.

  • Place it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes, until the salmon is cooked. I usually do 3 minutes for a piece.
