Salmon in the air fryer

I'm obsessed with this salmon recipe because it's so quick and delicious! Cooking salmon in an air fryer makes the fish more tender and juicy and it's so quick and easy too! The Maple Soy Frosting is delicious, made with just 4 ingredients; pure maple syrup, sriracha, soy sauce and garlic. The best part, it couldn't be simpler, let the fish marinate for 15 minutes and then air fry for 6-8 minutes. This is my favorite Air Fryer Salmon recipe, but when I want something with a different flavor profile, I also love this Chili Lime Air Fryer Salmon and this Basil Parmesan Salmon. And if salmon isn't your thing, check out all my other air fryer recipes.

Air Fryer Salmon Variations:

I never order salmon at a restaurant because I know it comes out much better when I prepare it myself, especially if I make it in the air fryer. This air fryer salmon is marinated with Asian flavors, but you can keep it simple! Attempt:

  • Salmon seasoned with salt and black pepper and finished with fresh lemon squeezed on top to keep it simple.
  • Play with different spices on your salmon like Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, etc.
  • Try honey instead of maple syrup in this recipe.

How to Cook Salmon in the Air Fryer

  1. If the salmon is frozen, thaw overnight in the refrigerator or place the sealed fish in a large bowl of cold water until the fish melts.
  2. Cut the salmon fillet into four even pieces or buy pre-cut fillets and marinate them in maple syrup, sriracha, garlic and soy sauce for 15 to 20 minutes. You can keep the skin or remove it if you wish.
  3. Then spray the fryer basket with olive oil spray or use parchment paper from the fryer (with holes) to prevent it from sticking and place it in the fryer.
  4. There is no need to preheat the air fryer. Depending on the thickness of the salmon, the fish should take about 6-8 minutes. While it's in the fryer, take the marinade and reduce it to a glaze that you'll pour over the fish at the end. Top it with scallions or sesame seeds, if desired – it's delicious!

Which air fryer is best?

There are so many great air fryers out there. After testing several for both my air fryer cookbooks, I am currently using and loving the Go Wise 7 Liter Air Fryer (Amazon affiliate link). I like it because the basket is bigger and it's 1700 so it's powerful!

What to serve with air fried salmon

I like to serve salmon with brown rice or potatoes and salads or vegetables like broccoli, bok choy or Brussels sprouts.

Useful tips for frying salmon in the open air

  • Spray the basket with a propellant-free oil or use air fryer parchment to prevent the skin from sticking to the basket.
  • There is no need to preheat the air fryer.
  • Don't overcrowd the bin so you get decent airflow.
  • There is no need to turn the salmon, it will cook well on both sides.
  • To find out if the salmon is ready, during cooking the fish will go from translucent (red or raw) to opaque (pink). Check for doneness after 6-8 minutes of cooking by peeking into the thickest part with a sharp knife or fork. It should fall apart, but will still have some translucency in the center when done.

How to store

Refrigerate leftover salmon in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
