FRIJOLADA: Preparación Fácil y Rápida para Todos


The beans are placed in a pot with the pig's hooves, half the stew and water. Boil it, lower the heat and cook until it is almost soft. For the beans:

  • 3 cups Cargamanto or borlotti beans
  • 450 grams (1 pound) pork shank
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1 cup grated carrot
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 green banana, peeled and cut into pieces

For the stew:

  • 2 cups diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup white onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped long onion
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

At your service:

  • White rice
  • Slices of avocado
  • Fried egg
  • Petaconi


  1. Place the beans in a large pot along with the pork hooves, half the stew and the water. Over medium-high heat, bring the beans to a boil, cover the pot and reduce the heat to medium-low. We let them cook until they are almost soft, about 2 hours.
  2. To prepare the stew, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat and add the tomato, onions, salt, garlic, coriander and cumin powder, cooking for 10-15 minutes.
  3. When the beans are almost tender, add the rest of the stew, bananas, carrots and salt. Cover and cook until the beans are fully cooked, adding more water if necessary.
